The Socratic Law – 2 unwritten rules of practice

March 30, 2011

1) have a smile: the point is not to show off. it is to allow people direct access to better, cleaner knowledge, through their own facilities. if you keep the smile, you can achieve better things.

2) be a little humble: even the best practitioners (and I am FAR from that) can make mistakes. and the best way to find out is through the questions asked by the uninitiated (so don’t think them any less intelligent than you, just less practiced in one method of many).

Oh, and love the world. All of it.

today’s post I would like to dedicate to the immortal words of Joseph Conrad:
“The nights descended on her like a benediction.”

focus, focus, focus

I have a complete lack thereof, due to my stomach.
ANYHOO…I am stuck with the idea that 90% of the time we are wasting our own minds and time and capacity and resources.
Because we run around scared of losing something, anything.
tired of being scared doesn’t help, either. it’s called depression.
So I am trying not to be tired, but physical situation is harsh.

“In a protracted and spirited debate, the Senate of the University of Johannesburg (UJ) today voted to allow its formal relationship with Ben-Gurion University (BGU) in Israel to lapse on 1 April 2011.” (from UJ website)

How stupid.

You were working on a very important water-related project together, and now, because no Palestinian university could afford to directly partner with an Israeli one, UJ severed the tie. The project will die, de facto. STUPIDITY.
No consideration was given to the fact that a PA institution collaborating with an Israeli one could mean death sentences to its leaders, could lead to riots on campus. IDIOCY.
BGU does not lose a thing, and this will not change the way it works. INEFFICIENT.

Here’s an idea – how about signing a collaboration piece with a PA University on another field, and bringing the professors together under the auspices of UJ? My GOD! Embracing the change! Making it happen! Not pretending that this stupid move will have any good effect.

She is singing her head off
it is fun to watch, and funny to listen to
“he’s a boy, she’s a girl, he needs to go to the doctor, he’s really sick” all in a singsong.
